Vegas
Greetings from Las Vegas. I’ve been here for six days now and fly back to Sydney today. Six days is a long time in Vegas—far too long. Yesterday I saw daylight for the first time since I arrived. Over the past week, I’ve either been working in my hotel room or attending conferences during the day, and as there aren’t any windows in the underground shopping strips or casinos, it’s perfectly normal never to see the light of day. I’m definitely ready to leave.
It’s astounding to see how quickly Vegas is changing. I was last here four years ago for a different conference and the landscape has changed significantly since then. All along the main strip and side roads new multi-billion dollar constructions are rising up. Vegas has turned into one giant building site, trying to accommodate the growing 40 million visitors who come here each year. Impressive as the city is, it’s best experienced in small doses. I’m not sure when I’ll have to return, but I hope it’s not anytime soon.
